November 11th is a sacred day set aside in remembrance and support of all Veterans. Walking Cradles is proud to honor these veterans by donating 15% of sales from Nov. 8th through Nov. 11th to H.E.R.O.E.S Care.

Many of us have or know a Veteran we hold dear to our hearts. With this special day soon approaching we wanted to share the meaning behind such a prominent symbol: The red poppy.
For decades, these little red faux flowers have been handed out around this time of year, in exchange for donations. Have you ever stopped to wonder, 'why a red poppy? What is the significance here?'
Recently, our Creative Director, Lisa Schmitz discovered a heartfelt post that elaborates on why November 11th was chosen for Veteran's day and the true purpose behind the beautiful red poppy.
As we read, we learned that November 11th was chosen as Veterans Day because WWI came to its end on Nov. 11, during the 11th hour of the day.
What is the importance of the poppy you're wondering? Each color represents something. The delicate red petals represent the bloodshed of those who lost their lives during battle. The black seedlings that gather in the middle, stand for the unbearable grief and endless mourning of the families and loved ones who's soldiers never returned to them. Lastly, the green steam symbolizes hope- green grass and healthy crop growth to be more precise. After a battle that was so destructive, taking so much, and leaving behind so little, we had to look toward the future.
If you plan to show your support this Veterans Day by wearing a poppy, it is suggested that you place it on your right side with it positioned at 11 o'clock.
