"If you work really hard and you're kind, AMAZING things will happen!"
So far this year, Walking Cradles has had the pleasure of featuring some truly fantastic women - all who have many roles in life, and all who have wonderful stories to share. They reside in areas all over the country, excel in many different types of careers, and have shown us that no matter what your role in life, wearing the proper shoes is very important.
Today, I am excited to introduce Laura Boehm for Part IX of "Shoes for All Walks of Life!"
Typically, I start these stories by sharing how I met our featured guest. In this case, I've known Laura her entire life! Laura's mom, Jane, and I have been the best of friends since grade school. In fact, Laura and her sister, Elissa, are my Godchildren! This being said, I am probably responsible for creating a shoe-diva in Laura at a very early age!

Today, Laura is a wife, mother of two adorable kiddos, and a first grade teacher. She is also a great example of a young adult who has discovered the importance of comfortable shoes that fit properly. The past couple of weeks, I have had the chance to tag along with Laura, Elissa and Jane on a girls shopping trip and then to also stop in as she prepares her classroom for back-to-school at Carlinville Primary School (in Carlinville, Illinois).
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A TEACHER?
Growing up, school was actually not that easy for me. Knowing how much I struggled through school, I wanted to help those students who needed it. I always have patience for students who aren’t understanding something because I was in their shoes once.
The other inspiration was kids, of course! I love kids! You never know what they are going to say. Each day of teaching is something different and something new is always happening. Teaching definitely keeps you on your toes! Watching students learn and have their “a-ha” moments is the best! I absolutely love teaching first grade!

BEING A TEACHER FOR YOUNG CHILDREN REQUIRES BEING ON YOUR FEET A LOT. WHAT KINDS OF SHOES DO YOU PREFER? AND WHAT KINDS HAVE YOU FOUND ARE TERRIBLE FOR WEARING ON THE JOB?
I prefer something with a good arch support but most important- they have to be comfortable!
When I first started teaching eleven years ago, I wore some pretty uncomfortable shoes. It didn’t take me long to figure out that a comfortable shoe is better than having blisters, not to mention how much my feet could hurt by noon. Flip flops are the worst!
I am so glad that Lisa introduced me to Walking Cradles. These shoes literally feel like pillows for your feet! I can wear Walking Cradles all day teaching, and by 5:00 my feet still feel good! I am so thankful for shoes that fit my feet and have the great support and quality that I need for my busy lifestyle.SPEAKING OF YOUNG CHILDREN, TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURS. WHAT ARE SOME THINGS THAT YOUR FAMILY ENJOYS DOING TOGETHER?
I have two children. Tate, who will be 7 this month. He is going to be in first grade and my next door neighbor at school [one classroom over] this year! Maely is 4 and she will be in Pre-K.

The kids were both in soccer this spring, they were both on the same team so that was fun to watch! Tate kept us busy in baseball this summer. Both of the kids have been in a pool as much as they can be! We love to be outdoors; go for walks in the woods in the timber by our house, fishing and riding side-by-sides.

As I get older, the quality/comfortability is the key when making footwear choices. Looking back, I only went for the style of the shoe, not quality and comfort. Now that I am in my thirties, the footwear choices that I make now will forever have an effect on my feet as I grow older. An area that I have to watch is I have bad arches in my feet. Walking Cradles gives my feet the support that they need, and being a teacher, I am on my feet all day. I can tell you that at the end of the day my feet aren’t hurting and I am getting the quality and comfort that I need in my Walking Cradles.
TELL US WHAT YOU LIKE ABOUT THE DESTIN, WHICH YOU CHOSE TO WEAR ON THE GIRLS SHOPPING DAY!
I absolutely love the color of these Destin sneakers! They are so versatile, you can dress them up or down. The cut-out detail in the leather on the sides is what drew me to this particular shoe. They are so light on my feet and so comfortable! They also have two different colored laces that come with them so you can switch them out to match whatever you are wearing.

Note from Lisa: When I asked Laura to select the shoes she wanted to wear for this photoshoot, she selected the Destin. At the shopping trip, her mom, Jane and her sister, Elissa chose to also wear their Metro+ sneakers, which they had purchased as soon as they came out this summer! How fun! In these shots (which made this story a triple-bonus), Jane is wearing the Dash in Snow Leopard and Elissa is wearing the Dylan in Black Snake Print.
We met up at Summit Produce in the Kirkwood Farmers Market, which provided a great space to shop, have a photoshoot and a few great laughs as people never quite know how to respond when they unknowingly wander in front of a camera at a photoshoot!

THANK YOU FOR THE CHANCE TO SEE YOUR SCHOOL AND CLASSROOM! YOU CHOSE THE HUSTLE SANDAL FOR YOUR BACK TO WORK/SCHOOL SHOE - WHY IS THIS A GREAT CHOICE?
Laura points out one of the kids favorite areas at their school -
the constellation dome!
This sandal is a great choice for me to wear to work [school]! The snake print is what first caught my eye on the Hustle. I love that it has three adjustable straps so it can fit your foot properly. The Tiny Pillow foot beds on these are amazing! I can wear these all day teaching and my feet still feel great. With any sandal, it can be a challenge to get that arch support that I need and the Hustle has it!

WHAT IS A MESSAGE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH EVERYONE?
Something that I always tell my students is simple: work hard and be kind. I think the world needs these qualities now more than ever. When I say this in my classroom, it might change how a little-one works, thinks, and acts. Hopefully that will stick with that child forever. We all must set good examples and be positive role models because there are little eyes and ears watching at all times.
We are very grateful to Laura for being part of “Shoes for All Walks of Life.” Like me, I'm sure everyone remembers a teacher that made a lasting impact in their life. Listening to Laura's passion for teaching, and seeing the thought and care she has put into creating such a warm, welcoming classroom, I'm sure Mrs. Boehm will be remembered as a favorite teacher and for helping shape their lives.
Thank you for joining us to learn more about the women who wear Walking Cradles and their multi-faceted lives. We will feature a different fabulous female each month and we hope you look forward to reading their stories as much as we enjoy working with them. Although, is it really work when you love what you do so much and get to spend time with such amazing people?!
Until next time...
