In a world full of people, therapists, doctors, books, podcasts, newsletters and so much more, promising to help us feel better about ourselves and overcome fears and insecurities we may have been carrying for years, how are we to determine what is most helpful?
When I met Dr. Shawn Horn, there was something about her presence that was comforting, warm and pleasant. Once I found out more about her and her unique way of helping others, I was even more intrigued. Whether through private practice, her podcast, or public speaking events, Dr. Shawn Horn is here to help people "Learn how the foundations of psychology, science and principles of wisdom can inspire, motivate, empower and equip us to live more effectively and masterfully. We inspire by living an inspired life!"
Ironically, Dr. Shawn and I originally got to know each other during a photoshoot. Not only does the camera love this beautiful, confident, tall woman - but her infectious personality captivates everyone around her! Dr. Shawn had all of us laughing and having fun - basically forgetting any insecurities that may come from being the subject in a photoshoot. Quickly I realized that this is what makes her so good at being a psychologist - she makes you feel comfortable!
Being tall and beautiful, I couldn't help wondering what size shoe she wore (occupational hazard - I do this to everyone!). At that moment, she was in a stunning royal blue dress and magenta high heels - totally rocking the confidence it took to pull off this stunning ensemble with her long dark hair and lip color to match her shoes! Striking up a conversation about shoes, I knew she would be a great person to introduce to Walking Cradles.
Since that time, she has enthusiastically partnered with us on several fun events and promotions for Walking Cradles - always bringing her unique flair for fashion, fun and whimsy. When Dr. Shawn told me that she had been selected to be a TedX speaker and wanted to wear a pair of Walking Cradles for her talk, we were over the moon with excitement!

BEFORE YOU BECAME A PROFESSIONAL INFLUENCER, YOU HAD OTHER TIES TO FASHION, PLEASE SHARE WITH US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND.
My mother was an artist, model, fashion designer and stylist, who came from a family of dress makers and Tailors. In fact, her grandmother was the original costume designer for the historical Old Globe theater in San Diego. At any given time, our home was filled with musicians, designers, models, photographers, and celebrities. My mother ensured I could decern good fabrics, well-made clothes, and shoes. I recall her drinking wine, wearing a classic silk dress and singing opera for her friends. They were all so beautiful and interesting. I hoped one day, I could be as glamorous and sophisticated as them, but was not optimistic given my awkward and larger frame. I later grew to be 6’1 and at the age of 15 was discovered by a modeling agent. I later moved to LA to pursue my young career as a model and actress. It was at that time, I was introduced to psychodrama techniques. This experience changed my trajectory! I changed gears and went on to pursue a future in the field of psychology. Eventually I achieved my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and became The Shame Busting Psychologist and TEDx Speaker!

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO PURSUE A CAREER AS A PROFESSIONAL BLOGGER/INFLUENCER?
After serving in the mental health field for over two decades I decided to bring the wisdom of the therapy room to larger audiences. For years I heard clients say, “I’ve learned more in one session than I have in ten years of therapy!” I couldn’t understand how that was possible. I quickly learned my interactive approach was somewhat unique. I believe as a psychologist, it is my job to help others remove the psychological obstacles that inhibit one’s growth. Therefore, I integrate empathic listening, with psychoeducation and skill acquisition. Clients often said, “I wish my family could hear this!” That is when I thought, “Well, why not? I could make this information available to all online.” That is when I decided to build my presence on social media, YouTube and more. This venture opened many doors to opportunities I couldn’t have dreamt possible! It took me from my office to a TEDx stage. I often say , “Nothing normal happens in my life!” Once the intention is set, and my heart says “Yes!” to the Divine powers which lead me, unimaginable and extraordinary doors open. I believe this is a true principle for us all. It is the most exciting journey!
YOU KEEP QUITE BUSY, PLEASE SHARE WITH EVERYONE THE VARIETY OF BRANDS/PRODUCTS YOU WORK WITH AND WHAT YOUR DAY CONSISTS OF.
I continue to maintain my fulltime private practice as a license clinical psychologist in Spokane Washington Monday-Thursday. Once a week I provide supervision and therapy training to psychiatric residents from University of Washington Medical School.
Outside of my clinical work, I’m building a larger online presence and speaking career. I am the expert host on a local public TV show, Uncovered with Nichole Mischke, host to Inspired Living Podcast and founder of Inspired Living School. I absolutely love speaking and spreading the Shame Busting Message around the world and any opportunity that comes my way!

WHEN YOU AREN’T WORKING, WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU ENJOY DOING?
I love gardening, crafts, hiking, kayaking, paddleboarding, travel, anything with water and family and friends!
YOUR SENSE OF STYLE IS EVIDENT IN YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES AND CHANNELS, DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE “LOOK?”
My “look” depends on the day and my hormones! Some days are Donna Karen, others Betsey Johnson. Anything whimsical, artistic, and classic. What a combo!
HAVE YOU FOUND YOUR SHOE WANTS/NEEDS HAVE CHANGED OVER THE YEARS, AND IF SO, HOW?
Yes, unfortunately I have Haglund’s Deformity and my feet are in constant pain. Hopefully, this will change, but for now, my size 11 is creeping up to a 12 and I need a lift in the heel. The Orleans provide the necessary comfort to my sore feet. I’m so grateful I found Walking Cradles!

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT THE WALKING CRADLES SHOES YOU ARE WEARING IN THESE PHOTOS?
I like shoes with character!
The Orleans Glitter fit my personality and was the perfect statement shoe to walk onto the TEDx stage! Especially with toilet paper on my shoe!! I definitely tricked the audience. How could I resist! (See a clip of the intro to the TedX talk here)

WHAT IS A MESSAGE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH EVERYONE ?
As the Shame-busting Psychologist I’m here to say, it’s time to step out of your comfort zone and transform from the person you were programmed to be into the person you are designed to be! When I was 6 yrs old my school wrongly assessed my cognitive abilities. My parents were told I had a severe cognitive disability and was unable to learn. What they didn’t know, was that I drew pictures on my test! That is why the scores bottomed out. No one took the time to look at my test. I was then placed in special education throughout my primary and secondary education. It wasn’t until after high school, I discovered I was fully capable and intelligent! I stepped out of the limitations that were spoken over me and broke free, achieving a doctoral degree and eventually becoming faculty at a medical school! Me! The kid in special ed! To break free, I had to unlearn my false given identity and learn my true identity, capabilities, and attainable possibilities!
I find dreams do come true, the secret is, don’t wait until you can see the destination or result, or until your dream is validated and given outside permission. Give YOURSELF permission and validation! Begin moving with the intention and remain open to how it will show up! Most of the time, it is better than anything we could have imagined! I began saying yes to my dreams and passions, first at 22 and then later at 48. At 52, I was given the opportunity to share my message on TV and the TEDx stage. I’m just beginning!!!! We can reinvent our lives at any time. What many don’t realize is that we can be blindsided by miraculous wonderful things! Keep your eyes open and look for the wonder. It will find you!!!
